The pool of instruments proposed here consists of types of instruments:
(1)
Two commercial wideband (0.001-1000 s) MT receivers capable of recording 6 magnetic channels and 8
electric dipoles. Together these constitute one remote-reference MT system capable of
continuous MT profiling. This equipment (see list below), owned by UC Riverside, consists of
two EMI MT-24 systems. These systems are capable of recording at periods from 0.01 sec
to 1000 sec and use GPS clocks to synchronize the two recording systems. The systems include
two laptop computers to run the systems and process data. The EMSOC Facility also provides
electrodes

, cables, and 12V battery chargers

. The systems are designed to operate on 12V car batteries, which the user provides.
A loan agreement

must be filled out and proof of insurance provided to UCR before borrowing
the equipment. A Word97 version of the loan agreement is available from
the anonymous ftp server at vortex.ucr.edu under pub/emsoc.

A second remote-reference wideband MT system at the University of Utah. This custom system,
originally developed with DOE funding, will be refurbished and substantially upgraded. In
routine use, this system will perform essentially the same functions as (1). However, it
possesses capabilities unlikely to ever be available in commercial systems and will be used
for developmental purposes.
